While I appreciate some members of the GOP wanting to decrease a deficit budget, I also am reminded that those of us who have been out of work for so long that we count the time in YEARS have NO benefits left. No income, NO insurance, NO food stamps and NO JOB. The reality is that many middle class educated hard working Americans now face a future as homeless individuals. I am one of those.
My days are spent scouting any type of a job I can do to bring dollars home to my family. I am ready to file for bankruptcy, but don't have the $300 needed to file. Today I found a one day temp job that will give me about $50 next week. My mortgage is $1500 and I am three months behind. I no longer have credit and that's not because I lived beyond my means. As a good secretary I paid every one of my bills on time, but the simple math is, if it doesn't come in as pay, it doesn't go out to pay the bills.
After President Obama was elected, I wrote an email to the White House asking him to remember those of us who struggled. This was the land our forefathers found where a better day for mankind approached on the horizon and the land of our recent immigrant ancestors who came for a much better life than the one dealt them. I appealed to the President to really SEE those Americans who struggled and who were in the fight for the long haul. Those Americans who had worked their entire life so that someday their children might succeed. Those Americans who now watched as their entire life and dreams for their children washed away with the economy.
Five months later on a Sunday morning, the telephone rang. A call from the White House! Well, no. Actually it was a call from a mental health agency. The White House wanted to make sure I wasn't depressed enough over the financial state to off myself. Now there's a caring guy.
Okay, I digressed. I think you can tell that the overall theme of the economy for people like me is pretty dire.
People like me.... we lost over 70% of our jobs to offshore companies like call centers and software developers in India. We find total incompetance in federally or state funded jobs designed to help us solve our problems. Most people have no idea what they're doing and leave us hanging for months while misinformation crosses paths over and over again.
I have something to say. I'm not invisible. I am an AMERICAN and I demand I be seen and heard.
I want a JOB. I want to WORK. I want the PROUD feelings I once had.
WHERE are those jobs? If not the jobs, what can you do to get us through this crises.
PLEASE VOTE FOR THE EXTENSIONS. PLEASE VOTE FOR JOBS. PLEASE FIND WHERE THE LEAK IS AND FIX IT!
(here is my resume....I'll talk to anyone about a good job)
