I came to Washington to be an independent voice, to put politics aside, and to do everything in my power to help create jobs for Massachusetts families. This Senate jobs bill is not perfect. I wish the tax cuts were deeper and broader, but I voted for it because it contains measures that will help put people back to work.

I was disappointed with the continuation of politics-as-usual in the drafting of this bill, as it was crafted behind closed doors, without transparency and accountability. I hope for improvements in that process going forward. All of us, Republicans and Democrats, have to work together to get our economy back on track. I hope my vote today is a strong step toward restoring bipartisanship in Washington.

wow.. that didn't take long.. I believe the US Congress should adopt the same rules as the Texas Congress has.. which is... they only meet every two years for a fixed amount of time... That might be a good idea for Washington to follow

Hey
It was only a vote to "debate" the jobs bill.
Where do you get your information? There was no drafting of the jobs bill.
Already, you want to throw him under the bus.
He has to appease his constituents by voting "independently," and try to get re-elected with one full term and than dupe you all.
Hello!

Scott - many thanks for taking chances and reaching across the aisle to do the right thing.

I actually agree with U. Space on this. I did not want the Republicans to block this one. I am pretty sure that it is not going to work but since it is "only" $15 billion it was a good idea to let the Dems have this one and it makes it just a little more difficult for them to accuse Republicans of only saying NO to everything. Also, if the Republicans had blocked it, the Dems would have blamed the unemployment rate on the failure to pass this bill should that rate remain high.
Having said that, I do believe that the Democrats are driving this country toward the cliff. I hope that Republicans will refrain from trying to meet them half way over that cliff just for the sake of not appearing to be obstructionists.

Oh Scott, can you not understand? If it don't feel right then don't do it. You say yourself you are disappointed with the continuation of politics-as-usual, yet you supported it. You say it was crafted behind closed doors, without transparency and accountability, yet you supported it. Read your words, and you will see the insanity. Get out of the echo-chamber.

You say all of you have to work together to get the economy back on track. No you don't. You just have to quit spending our money. It is not a jobs bill, it is just more spending. Stop the madness. Let things fail if they must, but stop the insanity.

Come on, give the kid a break. I think he's finding his legs. Don't be a 'Progressive', Senator. Progressivism is THE PROBLEM. A so-called 'Progressive Republican', is really not a true Republican at all.
