I came to Washington to be an independent voice, to put politics aside, and to do everything in my power to help create jobs for Massachusetts families. This Senate jobs bill is not perfect. I wish the tax cuts were deeper and broader, but I voted for it because it contains measures that will help put people back to work.

I was disappointed with the continuation of politics-as-usual in the drafting of this bill, as it was crafted behind closed doors, without transparency and accountability. I hope for improvements in that process going forward. All of us, Republicans and Democrats, have to work together to get our economy back on track. I hope my vote today is a strong step toward restoring bipartisanship in Washington.

This conversation has settled down but in the last twenty four hours there were times I thought I was reading the Daily Kos!There is no need of calling this accomplished man such vile names and demeaning him for doing what he was elected to do...think independently. That does not mean be "independent" as in Joe Lieberman...it means make decisions based on one's own thought, study and judgment. Scott's first responsibility is to those who elected him...the Massachusetts constituents. I happen to be one of them...and not as "Grandpa" says , a "blue face" but a conservative one at that. It actually takes quite a bit of strength and conviction here, Grandpa because our liberal or progressive friends in the Commonwealth refer to us in ways similar to the unkind and unnescessary derogatory terms used here today by some. I would also like to mention that as you insult and Scott for one decision, you are also speaking of a 30 year member of our Armed Services.Throughout Scotts campaign, when there was a dozen people speaking to him or thousands, the biggest concerns were jobs and the childish, unproductive gridlock in Washington. Scott knows how to function in a setting such as Congress; he has been a public official on Beacon Hill for years. Many people from other states saw him as a glimmer of hope when those of us very excited about his candidacy shared information about him with people inother states. This was a TRUE and GENUINE grassroots movement. A local Republican campaign here would not have the funds to operate a huge machine at the outset. Please keep in mind that the entire nation was terrified of the midnight shenanigans of Obama, Reid and Pelosi happening all fall in DC. When it became known much through word of mouth, networking and hours of efforts by VOLUNTEERS,many across the country saw this election as something that might be able to change the tone in DC before it was too late. Otherwise, it would be Novembermidterms before such a chance would arise. In that amount of time given the secret meetings and complete disregard of the current administration for the people, many feared for the very future of our nation. It was not a professionally organized national fundraising blitz as is the specialty of the Democrats nor was it a politically connected circle of lawmakers and lobbyists as those Ms. Coakley entertained that generated the national excitement that grew around Scott; it was a varied and devoted group of Massachusetts patriots willing to take a stand and speak out (Sound familiar? Think 1775)Those of you from other states please know how grateful we were for your support and encouragement as we worked to elect Scott. I have said this endlessly and continue to be thankful including my posts today. But i ask you before you are so quick to condemn Scott to consider that it has been at least thirty years since anyone would look to MA for help or support unless it was for a cause wildly liberal. In the meantime many of you have had reasonable and effective leadership in DC. Have you been as detailed in your scrutiny of their every move throughout the years? Have you phoned and written and visited your public officials with such fervor as bill after bill has passed, been lost in congressional procedural debacles or partisan shenanigans session after session? Possibly this level of emotion has culminated due to an administration voted in with little scrutiny and tremendous frenzy that has disappointed many and terrified others. The House and Senate also dominated by the same party left our system without checks and balances and all of a sudden as the economy dipped, jobs were lost and our security was compromised, America awakened from its slumber. The eyes of the nation were on MA and Scott Brown. Now the weight of the nations woes are there too. If you want to continue to dismiss us as not "real conservatives" or any other moniker you chose, please keep in mind that you too have Senators who should have equal accountability all the time about all their deliberations. We are one nation under God. May we act like one.

I want to believe the best (that this was a rookie mistake) and not the worse (say one thing, do another). Reid, Pelosi and Obama have desperation plans in place to force legislation that Americans have said plainly they don't want. I hope you and your advisors get smart quick, and learn to circumvent the games the Dems are playing. Now you have another chance on Thursday to show your supporters what you are made of. Maybe the Republicans are walking into a trap, but they need to use the forum to show common sense solutions and reject public option and government takeover of health care. You can be a clear, undeniable voice that Americans don't want "business as usual" and they don't want this bill! You can demand that Democrats "start over". If Obama really wants to show bipartisanship, he needs to heed the American rejection of the old bill and embrace some smaller, incremental bipartisan ideas. Also you should demand full transparency of all the deals that were made and reflected in the prior bills. Use your victory and power for the good of the American people to turn this tide!

Dear Jeff, '
I so do not agee with you thinking. I donated about $500 to him over time as it was all UI could do. And a I so don't agree with you saying that he stiffed us with this vote. Absolutely bad thinking on your part. He did right by Mass, and I am an independent voter. He's doing ok by me.

The only people who are happy with this vote are the ones who donated zilch and worked against his candidacy. People who WILL NEVER vote for Scott Brown. Ever.

Meanwhile he stiffed (WITH HIS VERY FIRST REAL VOTE) the very people who worked their butts off for him (fiscally concious conservatives and indies).

Maverick does not equal independent and independent does not equal ethical or courageous.
Saying what you'll do then doing what you said you would do is ethical and courageous.
Doing what you've done Senator, is what garden variety political hacks do. And there's plenty of them, as you know since you promised you wouldn't be one.

For those (few) of you who are criiticizing those who are critical of Scott Brown, I just say that when a guy acts completely contrary to what he said he'd do in order to gain support and money, he deserves to be called on the hypocracy and betrayal. I also notice that of all the (few) comments critical of those who are critical (since there are hardly ANY pro-Brown comments) --- it's clear that you democrats are loving this whole thing. And when Brown runs for reelection, you will attack him for everything he did, didn't do, said he would do, didn't say he would do, etc. And I have to admit, by trying to woo a constituency that will not support him in the election at the expense of thse who did, he will deserve to have his ticket punched out of D.C.

Dear Scott,
We have faith that you will do the right thing for Massachusetts citizens. God Bless to you and your lovely family, and get to that meeting on Thursday and make us proud! I know you will

Dear Meg; One correction on your post. This is a "REPUBLIC" not a democracy. Too many people don't seem to know the difference between the two. Yes I am dissapointed in Scott, but I will still hold out hope that he will not get caught up in the Washington Beltway of business as usual. He is our sole hope at the moment.

Why would you vote for a bill that was crafted behind closed doors in a non-bipartisan, business as usual, screw you Republicans fashion? My contribution to your campaign was in a desperate attempt to influence decisions coming out of Washington. Government created jobs will only prolong the pain and drain the vitality of a recovery! Frustrated in South Dakota. PS.- SD Liberal Senators are not a result of my vote.

Hehe, these posts are hilarious...and where do you think they are coming from? The man is a senator, and he will vote as he will for his constituents. Go away with your horseshit comments, they don't mean anything. Its a vote, and it isnt the healthcare vote, go spam somewhere else...
