I came to Washington to be an independent voice, to put politics aside, and to do everything in my power to help create jobs for Massachusetts families. This Senate jobs bill is not perfect. I wish the tax cuts were deeper and broader, but I voted for it because it contains measures that will help put people back to work.

I was disappointed with the continuation of politics-as-usual in the drafting of this bill, as it was crafted behind closed doors, without transparency and accountability. I hope for improvements in that process going forward. All of us, Republicans and Democrats, have to work together to get our economy back on track. I hope my vote today is a strong step toward restoring bipartisanship in Washington.

Thank you, on behalf of all the unemployed who will be employed by this bill.
Thank you, for being truly independent. We have enough rabid Democrats and Republicans.
You can count on my economic support when reelection time comes around.
Keep up the good work.

800 billion dollar Stimulus vs. 15 Billion dollar Jobs bill....like apples and oranges.

You can't point out all the wrong things with this bill and then vote for it because "it contains measures that will help". That means we get the bad with the good. How about correct the wrong things first, keep the good measures, and then vote for the bill.

Donna....are you serious?? A 15 Billion dollar stimulus Bill? Do you remember how large the stimulus bill was in comparison to this? Not even close to what the stimulus bill was. This has tax cuts in it and is very targeted, so you are opposed to tax cuts now? I thought we were for tax cuts. So whether we are for tax cuts or not depends on who is President or in the majority? We need to be more pragmatic in this country.

Thank you for your pleasantry.
I am very concern about this enormous debt also.
Please remember, Obama inherited a deficit of $3.7 trillion and the worst recession (started in 2007) second only to the Great Depression.
Rather leaving this debt to our children and grandchildren, a resolution will neither be easy nor popular.
There has to be a bipartisan effort.
Many Americans are hurting financially. Losing their health plans and homes due to unemployment.
We don't need gridlock in Washington but compromise from both parties to assist expeditiously to those in desperate need of help.
S.B.'s vote on the jobs bill was to bring it forward to the floor(open to debate).
A $13 billion plan to give companies who hire unemployed Americans an exemption from paying payroll taxes on those workers through the end of this year. It also provides a $1,000 tax credit to employers who keep new workers on the payroll for at least for 52 weeks. A benefit for small companies. In short, it create jobs through tax credit.
A filibuster was averted Monday by a 62 to 30 vote.
After the debate, the Senate will vote Wednesday to approve the measure.
So S.B.'s vote did not help pass the jobs bill.
When more jobs are created, the revenue from taxes go up. And that revenue will in time pay off the debt.
Someone on this web site owns a company and can very well take advantage of the jobs bill. His name is Mark and goes by "Bradman family". Give him a comment and he'll probably have some interesting concept on the jobs bill.

Let's all take a little breather here and have a civics lesson on how this works. Maybe this will help Scott. By the way, I recommend Sam Adams. It couldn't get anymore American than that.

I'll be the first to admit I'm not the brightest bulb in the socket - sometimes you just need someone to spell things out for you:

If we taxpayers receive another 'Economic Stimulus' payment.
This is indeed a very exciting program, and I'll explain it by Using a Q & A format:

Q. What is an 'Economic Stimulus' payment ?
A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.

Q.. Where will the government get this money ?
A. From taxpayers.

Q. So the government is giving me back my own money ?
A. Only a smidgen of it.

Q. What is the purpose of this payment ?
A. The plan is for you to use the money to purchase a High-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.

Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China ?
A. Shut up.

Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the U.S. Economy by Spending your stimulus check wisely:

* If you spend the stimulus money at Wal-Mart, the money will go to China or Sri Lanka .

* If you spend it on gasoline, your money will go to the Arabs.

* If you purchase a computer, it will go to India , Taiwan or China .

* If you purchase fruit and vegetables, it will go to Mexico , Honduras and Guatemala ...

* If you buy an efficient car, it will go to Japan or Korea .

* If you purchase useless stuff, it will go to Taiwan .

* If you pay your credit cards off, or buy stock, it will go to management bonuses and they will hide it offshore.

Instead, keep the money in America by:

1) Spending it at yard sales, or

2) Going to ball games, or

3) Spending it on prostitutes, or

4) Beer or

5) Tattoos.

(These are the only American businesses still operating in the U.S. )

Conclusion:
Go to a ball game with a tattooed prostitute that you met at a yard sale and drink beer all day !

No need to thank me, I'm just glad I could be of help.

People voted for you that don't oppose every bill that comes through Congress. I'd like to know specifically what in this bill people are so opposed to. It is small and targeted, and not perfect, but if you want perfection from Congress then you make want to stop watching congress. I'd like to see Scott support PAY-AS-YOU go legislation, so that every piece of legislation must be paid for by cuts, so far the Republican leadership has opposed this, although just a couple years ago they were for it, kind of a JOHN KERRY MOMENT for the leadership of the Republican Party....they were for it before they were against it.

You're a rookie so you're allowed a mistake. I just hope you have learned, from all the people you have disappointed, who you're real friends and supporters are. Hint: They don't come with D's behind their names.

Calling people who disagree with you stupid- be careful, you sound like a progressive. Maybe you just have to "explain" it to us. And I can't believe people have bought the name "jobs bill". It's Stimulus 2.

Scott...if you see these post, KEEP THINKING INDEPENDENTLY, Dont let these people act like they own you and every vote you make....one vote, especially this one, doesn't define you as they are acting as if it does.
