I came to Washington to be an independent voice, to put politics aside, and to do everything in my power to help create jobs for Massachusetts families. This Senate jobs bill is not perfect. I wish the tax cuts were deeper and broader, but I voted for it because it contains measures that will help put people back to work.

I was disappointed with the continuation of politics-as-usual in the drafting of this bill, as it was crafted behind closed doors, without transparency and accountability. I hope for improvements in that process going forward. All of us, Republicans and Democrats, have to work together to get our economy back on track. I hope my vote today is a strong step toward restoring bipartisanship in Washington.

Michael, it is not about what Obama says regarding tax cuts or anything else. It is that you can't believe what he says. I know you are going to respond by saying that 'Bush lied' or something to that effect, but that does not excuse Obama for his disingenuiness(sp?)_

No Michael - When you give a tax cut and it is so small and has strings attached to the point that it will not be used in any significant degree (see language in the bill regarding tax cut to small business) . . . it is not a tax cut . . . it is a lie. It is a political trap . . . and Scott got suckered.

You are arguing just to argue . . . you clearly have not read the bill. You are a troll.

All tax cuts are targeted....even across the board tax cuts are targeted because they target certain brackets more then others AMERICAN AGGIE.

LKMCGUIRE....I'm glad you have explained that you are against tax cuts. A tax cut is a tax cut no matter the size. And if you want every elected official that gets elected to vote against every bill that spends any money, then you will be CONSISTENTLY let down. I don't know any politician in Washington that would fit that criteria. I just think that if their was a republican president their wouldnt be such wide-spread to this tax-cut jobs bill, the opposition seems to be oposition to anything Obama supports.

Michael, there will always be self serving people, but in the free market you can elect not to participate with a Corporation. With government you have no choice. And as far as the bank bailout and Medicare under Bush, both of those were bad decisions by Bush...and I like Bush.

'there is TREMENDOUS oversight' where stimulus money would not be spent as the dems want???? where is all the all the money from the first stimulus? I don't see 'oversight' or any 'accountability' for those billions ... by the way, Michael Allen, I watch and read a lot about what's going on in our 'big' government so my opinion can be recorded.

I agree with you that government should limit its involvement, but I definitely don't trust corporate morality....this idea that corporations will always do the best by their customers is somewhat Naive.

Michael, your conversation to this point has been intelligent, but you are starting to sound angry and partisan. No need to.
