I came to Washington to be an independent voice, to put politics aside, and to do everything in my power to help create jobs for Massachusetts families. This Senate jobs bill is not perfect. I wish the tax cuts were deeper and broader, but I voted for it because it contains measures that will help put people back to work.

I was disappointed with the continuation of politics-as-usual in the drafting of this bill, as it was crafted behind closed doors, without transparency and accountability. I hope for improvements in that process going forward. All of us, Republicans and Democrats, have to work together to get our economy back on track. I hope my vote today is a strong step toward restoring bipartisanship in Washington.

David Gaby your letter to Grandpa makes you sound like you support this bill because it provides actual help in regard to unemployment could you please explain how you could come to this conclusion?

Guess were going to see an increase in government jobs & employees with all these programs. Yes create jobs, but with Obama & Company screwing things up with banks. They're just making it more difficult for the private sector employers. Create jobs Brown without creating more debt and say no to backdoor crafted bills. They are never good. Please don't go back to business as usual philosphy

Ok I just read the story that breaks down this bill and it still sucks...13 billion is for the $1,000tax credit that will not result in a single new hire. There isn't a single business out there that is going to decide to hire someone based on a $1,000 credit that won't last a week.

Mr. Brown, you have popped my bubble of excitement you having fresh regular people ideas. Then you go and endorse a "imperfect" jobs bill. What's the rush, we've been out of jobs since last year, what's a few more weeks to do it right & perfect. Speak out and cut out the pork! You are just the rest of the clowns in office with business as usual. Do your state a favor & the nation and stop wishing you could do better and just do it better. The people thought of you as new hope & change. Don't vote on something just because, take a stand & say no! Do it right! Your people will understand it & you won't have to apologize. We are disappointed, thought you would give us new hope & change. Gee thanks! Gonna us my "Mr Brown Goes To Washington" to wash & dry my car from now on.

To Grandpa -

All the beneficiaries of the 'Reagan-Bush Tax Cut Bonanza' have had their fun, and the country is now in hock as a result. Rich people have invested and given many people jobs, and the money "trickling down" has lifted many boats, but, if you hadn't noticed, mostly these people are in Asia and other non-US locales. They don't vote here. See prior commentary by Ross Perot and Pat Buchanan.

One poor person can't give anyone a job, but a lot of them together, even if they work for the government on projects like bridges, can buy things and create private sector activity and get that equipment more utilized. This is a proven fact, not radio hogwash.

The problem is that with so many people wasting time and energy pushing so-called conservative nonsense, a few people are getting richer with silly tax cuts, but the country is getting poorer because of import-export imbalances, and massive public and private debt. When legislation needs to be improved, so that stimulus bills, when needed, are focused and efficient, the only ones in the room are pork promoters like the big government contractors and the unions, so we don't get the quality of bills we could.

Sen. Brown is going in the right direction, and conservatives should be supportive of him and help with the analysis and the advocacy so that a.) the existing legislation is as efficiently and productively as possible, and b.) the next legislation benefits from actual participation by conservatives instead of suffering due to this 'Cult of No' idiocy. Many people on this forum seem to be intelligent and patriotic; it would be great if we could make a contribution to the process and come up with a better implementation of these stimulus bills, and a better jobs bill for next time.

Its really disconcerting when practically everyone on this site was glorifying S.B. and now, with a few exceptions, vilifying him.
Have you fallen off the wrong side of the bed? Or was it the right side?

Grandpa,
Don't give me a lecture on economics.
You are still bogus.
You're throwing numbers randomly.
And I do have a job from a poor person. Its call volunteering.

Hey Grandpa I understand were are coming from but to do nothing or just plain kill our economy I don't see that as being the answer to America's problems. We did not get in this shape overnight and it is going to take some time to turn it around. I wish I had the answers but I do not but I don't Congress does either. As I said before they are do busy taking care of number 1 (themselves) and power hungrey. They all need to be fired like that school did the other day with the teachers that were not performing or so the news says. Congress is not taking care of America's business and we need to forget politics and get on down the road helping put American back on its feet. My grandchildren call me grandad. So one grandad to a grandpa I have enjoyed visiting with you about America's so called problems of which I think is Congress.

Grandpa,
You know a lot of what you mentioned can be written off. If you're not aware then you need a better accountant. (legal accountant, not one off the street)
And if you are within the 2% of the population receiving the benefit of the Bush?Cheney tax cut then, damn you, spread the wealth.
As S.B. said, the jobs bill is for small businesses. You are a medium size. It does not apply to you.
Sorry to read your business is stagnant. Try hiring someone who has graduated from an elite business college with an MBA. Innovation comes from the most brilliant minds.
Oh, we have an MBA graduate from an elite college. Our former president GWB has one from Harvard.
I'm sure he'll give you his two cents worth and no cost to you. (you can't write that off)
