We need a Federal Fetal Comfort Law
While I find great hope for the comfort of the unborn child in Nebraska's fetal pain bill, there is so much more we must do on this front.
While it may seem that specialists believe pain experienced by the unborn begins at around 20 weeks, many more specialists argue that the sensory nerve, thalamus and motor nerves are all present at eight weeks. This means the pain impulse makes its way to the thalamus, allowing the fetus to feel contact as early as eight weeks.
The proof of the pain felt by the fetus is witnessed when it pulls away from the abortionist's instruments and opens its mouth in response, the same way our children do when they prick their fingers.
Not providing pain relief when the potential for pain is there is careless and cruel.
