The most corrupting factor in our Federal government today is money. Rather than attack freedom of speech, the simple way to prevent abuse is by law. The ethics committees in both the House and Senate have proved ineffective in regulating the behavior of our elected officials. A potential fix is to remove the incentive to give from special interest groups, large donors and lobbyists. The way to do this is to make it illegal for any elected official to accept campaign contributions from a any company's officers or any industry over which that elected official has sway by virtue of their sitting on a committee that has oversight. This will remove the incentive to donate large sums to elected officials in order to gain access. While we're at it, let make it illegal for any elected official to ever become a lobbysist after their service.
