With the new left wing government comes a Pew research moonbat now in charge of NOAA, her name is Jane Lubchenko. For years the feds have cut back on our commercial fishermen days at sea, to the point where many have already gone out of business. Now the NOAA and Jane are trying to ram through new rules they call "catch shares" that will put the rest of the small family fishing boats out of business. You will read bogus stories of how great this is going to be in papers like the Globe. My brother is barely hanging on as is. The restrictions have been so severe that he usually has to go out to sea by himself, the gov't won't even allow him to catch enough fish to pay a helper. And now with these catch shares, he has calculated that his quota will be @ 20% of what it has been the past few years. In other words, if this goes through in 2010, he has to sell his boat and get a new career.

This hasn't been a political issue so much as it is becoming now. The thing is, they are using weird science to paint a picture of over-fishing but the truth is stocks of cod, scallops, and others have been rebuilt and are healthy. So they keep deleting the inconvenient truths and come out with lies. It's very similar to the climate-gate scam that has made Al Gore a billionaire. The scientists cheat and lie, in order to guarantee future funding and to guarantee thier jobs.

So we now have a huge federal bureaucracy in the form of the NMFS and part of the NOAA dedicated to putting small fishermen out of business. Senators Snowe and Collins of Maine and Senator Gregg of NH have been trying to help the commercial fishermen for years. I'd love to see Scott commit to this cause. Doing so would ally him with a decent sized group of concerned citizens.

If you are interested in finding out more, read the Gloucester Times who cover this issue daily. Here is a great opinion piece that does a much better job of explaining the situation that I have done:

Phil-I think you did a marvelous job of explaining the situation. None of us should be surprised of what is happening, when or to whom it is happening too.

I do think the fishing industry is missing the boat in this case. You just have to start organic or green fishing. Come up with how you are saving the oceans by your new ORGANIC fishing techniques and/or GREEN fishing.

You can hire a professor to come up with some bogus and not so easy to follow guidelines in ORGANIC/GREEN fishing, that require you to wear only earth friendly waders. This will be a milestone in the fishing industry, that will improve the quality and quantity of the catch, without disturbing the ecology or putting the planet at greater risk.

Who needs Republican support when you can have a bunch of Leftist, Democrat, Eco-Nuts, coming on board. Before long all your fellow fishermen, will be heralded for doing their part in stopping the destruction of the oceans, saving the planet, fishing organically, charging more for your Green catch, avoiding the regulations, saving your businesses and doing what you love to do.
I've started a Blog to educate people on the "out-of-control bureaucracy" that is in the process of eliminating the hard working fishermen and women of America. It's truly a David vs. Goliath story, a couple of thousand of hard working honest people vs. giant government hell bent on using junk science to ruin lives. I think this is much worse that the whole IPCC global warming is man made scam. All it takes to help out is learn more about what is going on, and help the fishermen by calling your senate and house reps and letting them know you aren't happy with what NOAA & NMFS is doing.

Thank you and God Bless America!

Time for Scott to take the ax to NOAA. Great stuff.
