2010: Massachusetts U.S. Senate Race. Volunteers did make a difference.

Can another writer run with the ball on this one?

I'd really love to see how another writer handles "The Rest of the Story".

Hi Jane,

I'll bite on this one. As Paul Harvey would say, "The Rest of the Story" is still being written in every election across this country.

I personally spent many hours calling, making signs, attending rallies, or doing anything that I could to support Scott but I don't feel like I'm through. I, like almost all of the folks that I came into contact with at the call center had never done anything like this before. Our overwhelming concern and motivation was that we truly had an opportunity to affect history in a good way. We were and still are fed up with how our government is being run. The support that we received from each and every state and even a few expats in other countries made us want to work that much harder. We felt like we were modern day Sons of Liberty dumping tea into Boston Harbor.

One of the main things that I have taken away from this experience is that we patriots, no matter where we are, can support each other. Get out volunteer, donate money, do whatever you can to support folks like Scott anywhere they might be. I've personally started researching candidates not only in Massachusetts but in other states as well. Even though there is an (R) next to my name on the voter rolls that does not mean that I will blindly vote for a Republican because of it. I'm of the opinion that some of our Republican representatives have stayed too long and need to retire. Retiring ALL the Democrats is my personal goal!

The media has sought to downplay the significance of this election. They still don't get it and neither do many of our politicians. That's why I feel that there is still much to do. I'm tired of being belittled and portrayed as some sort of ignorant, right wing, (insert your own adjective here) idiot by an adminstration, politician, or media source simply because I disagree with them. I remember attending a "Tea Party" last April in Worcester, MA with a few thousand of my newest friends. Similar rallies were held in Boston and in other locations across the state. The media ignored the events of that day but they spent a lot of time discussing the president's search for a dog. They have ignored us for the last time! I hope that they stay willfully self deluded until we've emptied all of the tea into the harbor.
Very well-written, Alf. I really enjoyed reading what you wrote.
From one Brown Brigade Word Warrior to another.
As Alf as so intelligently discerned, the "media", IMHO, is not doing a good job running the country.

They do this by ignoring what they don't like. They write to convince citizens that the fantasy they portray is real. How much today's media reminds me of George Orwell's "1984".

If you want to get a more accurate account of what is REALLY going on in the USA, you might choose to read some newspapers in other countries. I go to London.

I have proof of media intervention in how candidates are presented to USA citizens.
In a video of a Bush-Clinton-Perot debate, every time Clinton spoke, the camera moved in and softened. Draw your own conclusion.

I agree with Alf that Massachusetts is just the beginning.

Besides foreign newspapers (some of them also have English pages), I depend on the real news from fellow bloggers and posters. I also listen to radio similar to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL)j, only I call it "Fox News".
There is an administrator on one of the blogs I'm on that wants me to write about my volunteer experience. He's a journalist and said he would give me a hand. For his blogsite. He's been on campaigns in the past and says there isn't much written about the volunteers that worked very hard for their candidate. I haven't decided yet, it was so hectic and busy I'd have to make sure I could remember things in proper order. No embellishing.
The Rest of the Story

We had our boots on the ground for a long time
Yes, we did. The problem was we didn't band together as we should have. We didn't believe that any American would deliberately set out to destroy our nation. It took at least half of the people a year to realize this administration was running amok before realizing we had to stand up for our country and for the Constitution that was being destroyed bit by bit, day by day or we would lose our country for good. We can only hope we are not too late. However, the bright light that is shining through these dark clouds, is that Massachusetts sent Senator Brown to Washington. And it's only the beginning, the quiet revolution that is taking place all over the country is taking hold, with the removal of those who violated their Oath of Office, discarded the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and attempted to institute in it's place a Socialistic Form of Government against the wishes of The People. That will not stand!
